Reading this with my eldest daughter, just a couple of pages a day. She is growing a real love for Roald Dahl, and at just-turned-6 she is getting to the stage where she can read most of it herself. But as I read the text over her shoulder, I still can’t get over how plainly enjoyable the books are, and how magical they still feel, despite reading them so many times in my youth. No matter your age, there’s always something so timeless, so inexplicably golden and good natured about Dahl’s work, even though some of the themes and hints are inherently adult and a bit rude. I can’t wait to continue the journey with her.
